Chesterfield sits on some of the heaviest clay soil in St. Louis County. That matters โ a lot. Clay holds water after heavy rain, bakes concrete-hard in July and August, and suffocates grass roots when it compacts. Most Chesterfield lawns that look “thin” or “patchy” aren’t struggling from bad seed or bad mowing; they’re struggling from soil compaction that DIY aeration rentals can’t crack.
We’ve been servicing Chesterfield since the original Chesterfield Mall was new. We know which streets in Clarkson Valley have the hardest clay, which Wildhorse lots drain poorly after a storm, and which Baxter Village yards get enough shade from mature oaks to switch mowing frequency mid-season. That’s what three-plus decades of local routes teach you.
The number one issue we see at Chesterfield addresses: thin, thatchy lawns that brown out by mid-July. The cause is almost always a combination of compacted clay, inconsistent mowing height, and missed fall aeration. Our fix is straightforward โ fall core aeration, fescue overseeding with a Zone 6b-specific blend, and a return to proper 3.5โ4 inch mowing height through summer.
Number two: bed edges overrun with zoysia or Bermuda creep. Chesterfield’s older neighborhoods have decades of grass slowly migrating into mulch beds. We edge cleanly, install commercial-grade bed edging where needed, and keep it tight on the weekly visits.
We run weekly routes through Clarkson Valley, Wildhorse, Baxter Village, Kehrs Mill Crossing, Weatherby Lakes, Eatherton Estates, Chesterfield Farms, The Bluffs, Schoettler Grove, Sugar Creek Hills, and every pocket in between. If your address has a 63005, 63017, or 63006 zip code, we’re already running trucks past it every week.
“Metro West has been doing our lawn for six years. Every year it gets greener. They just handle it โ we never have to call them, they just show up.” โ Tom & Lisa, Clarkson Valley
“Scheduled a sod install two weeks after we moved in. The whole front yard was laid in one day. Still looks perfect three years later.” โ Amanda, Baxter Village
