St. Charles is a mix of some of the oldest residential property in the region and some of the newest. Historic Frenchtown and Old Towne have narrow lots with mature trees and decades-old irrigation — sometimes rotted copper, sometimes shifted grade. New Town and the developments along Muegge Road were built on reclaimed floodplain and bottomland with very different soil profiles than the rest of Metro West.
That variety is why we don’t run a one-size-fits-all service in St. Charles. Our crews adjust mowing height, bed treatment, and aeration strategy by neighborhood — because a 1920s bungalow in Frenchtown needs a completely different approach than a 2019 new-build in New Town.
In older neighborhoods: mature-tree root competition. Big oaks and sycamores in Frenchtown steal water and nutrients from surrounding turf. Fix is overseeding with shade-tolerant fescue blends and adjusting mowing height higher to let grass outcompete the roots.
In newer developments: drainage & bottomland clay issues. Parts of New Town and north St. Charles sit on heavy river-bottom clay. We specify core aeration every fall in those areas, because compaction happens faster and matters more.
